Golf: Ryder Cup Picks 2012 - Close encounter?
Medinah CC in Illinois is the venue for the Ryder Cup 2012 and the US side are as hungry as ever to get their hands on the trophy with the record books showing a poor six losses from the last eight editions. I will have plenty of in-depth Ryder Cup previews and tips throughout the week in my various columns - scroll down for direct links to these. Ryder cup top points scorer, outright, head to head match betting and Ryder Cup specials are markets I'm looking at. For now I'm going to start with two dutch bets that take my fancy
Taking into account the layout of the course, with US Captain Davis Love setting the lengthy 7,657 yard track up with little rough and fast greens, I expect an American side loaded with big hitters and fast green specialists to be very strong this year. The European Ryder cup side has a number of players who play fulltime on the PGA Tour though and will be far from a pushover. I do fancy the Americans to come out on top in a tight affair but rather than taking odds on for a home Ryder cup victory I will be dutching some correct scorelines.
Ryder Cup best bets
At best prices, if we dutch the US to win the Ryder Cup by a scoreline of 14.5:13.5, 15:13 or 15.5:12.5, we would see a return of 4.10 on our total investment which to me is good value. We may get even better value prices on Betfair later in the week
I'm also looking at the Ryder cup 'Top Wildcard' market. Steve Stricker and Dustin Johnson look very strong in this one and we will get odds of around evens by dutching the two.
Stricker is expected to partner Woods while Dustin Johnson will love the set up of Medinah. I expect both will play four, if not five matches. Of the other runners, Rose may be paired with Poulter and I think their length will have them at a disadvantage around this track while Furyk, Snedeker and Colsaerts may find themselves sitting out at times.
